To Wiki or Not to Wiki

As the proliferation of wikis continue, one of the roadblocks that I have encountered is the absence of good database connectors in many of the leading products.

Many of these products prefer to store data in XML format on a wiki page. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. However, this architecture appears to be geared mainly to the consumer end users or the "long tail."

Do you agree in order for wikis to be taken seriously at the enterprise level as a development platform or a useful tool that it must be able to connect to the millions of existing databases so it can produce more data driven mash-up reports, charts and webpages?
